The BEST eye primer…ever!
Will you join me on a little hiatus from our normally-scheduled programming to discuss something that has been on my mind lately? You will? Okay, thanks! Yay!
I am so excited to share the news that I have recently discovered a really awesome makeup product that has changed my life and I want to tell you all about it! 🙂 Hehe! I feel so dramatic writing that…but it is TRUE!
I don’t know if you are like me, but I love a good eyeliner. Honestly, it feels like it is one of the most important products in my makeup bag; in my mind I just do not look awake without it. And, any busy momma knows that the last thing we need is to look more sleepy than we already are! The trouble is that no matter what kind of eyeliner I use it always ends up smeared on my upper eyelid.
Primer is the answer?
Friends and makeup experts suggested I try using an eye “primer” so I set out to find this cure-all a few years ago. I thought it would be a quick visit to my local target. Um, I was wrong!
It took a little digging to find said “primer” in the first place. When I did figure out what it was and where to find it, I raced home to give the new product a try. But what do you suppose I found out? All of the primers failed me! No matter what brand I used or how much (or little) I applied, my eye makeup always became duplicated on my upper lid, like some bad old-school ditto machine mishap.
One top-rated primer actually dried out the delicate skin around my eyes and made them look crepey. Yuck! On top of it making me look strange AND older, it wasn’t effective at keeping my makeup from smearing on my upper lid. It wasn’t cheap either! What a waste of money. Eventually I gave up hope of finding anything that would actually work.
What’s wrong with me?
I would find myself looking at friends or acquaintances during social events to see if their eye makeup failed them as mine was failing me! This had me wondering if they could tell I was checking out their eye makeup. I didn’t want to look like a freak show, but at the same time I had to figure out the secret to keeping it all in place!
Truth be told, I kind of felt like I was alone in this battle and assumed that there was something weird about my eyes. OR, I questioned if I was lacking some kind of secret makeup application super-power that others clearly had?
I was starting to think, what’s wrong with me?
Mary Kay is for old ladies?
Recently a dear friend started selling Mary Kay. I actually know several ladies who sell this long-standing makeup brand, but I have never really checked it out. I remember going with my mom when I was just a wee thing to a Mary Kay consultant’s home for a makeup demonstration. Other than that, I really didn’t know a whole lot about the company OR the products.
I am pretty low-key with makeup and tend of be kind of a cheapskate too. (Shh, don’t tell anyone.) There are a few things I know I like; I try to keep it simple. I wasn’t really sure what to think when my friend asked me about doing a facial or checking out the product line. Assuming Mary Kay was for old ladies or people who really liked to wear a lot of makeup, I wasn’t sure it was for me. I didn’t think I fit into either of those categories, not that there is anything wrong with *those* categories.
Show your support!
Like I’d hope my friends would do for me, I wanted to support my gal pal’s new endeavor even if I wasn’t really sure about the products! That’s what friends are for, am I right? So, I decided to keep a low profile while checking things out. Who knows, maybe something would catch my eye?
One day not long ago, my friend posted a photo of herself looking fabulous on her Facebook page. Don’t get me wrong, she always looks fabulous, but in this particular instance she was showcasing some Mary Kay makeup products. Her eye game was strong! Now then, what do you suppose she raved about while looking so very lovely? Ding, ding, ding!!! She had me at primer.
What’s that you say? Your eyes look muy fabulosos AND your makeup all stays in place? It doesn’t rub off on your upper lid? Where’s the catch? This magical eye primer potion has to cost a fortune?
So I contacted her…immediately. I HAD to find out if this product actually works. I mean of course they all say they work, but does it really, Really, REALLY work?
Her claim? Yes, it REALLY works. And would I like some?
It sells for only $12.00 and how about some great eyeliner as well?
Of course some people say things work just to make a quick buck, but I trust my friend. I’ve known her for awhile and she is legit!
So then I asked my friend and Mary Kay consultant if I could purchase some of the eye primer. Unbelievably she had it in my hands in less than 24 hours. That’s fast! Honestly, I think she dropped it off at my house the very next morning, faster than a trip to my nearest Ulta or Target in any case and I didn’t even have to drag my kids around town! Wow!
A long time ago I had heard Mary Kay products were not all gluten-free. Because I have Celiac Disease and avoid gluten at all costs, I needed to make sure this product was gluten-free for my safety. No matter how good of an eye primer it might be, I can’t risk getting sick from makeup. That’s just NOT my style. From my research and discussion with my friend/Mary Kay consultant, I learned that formulations were changed years ago and now almost everything Mary Kay sells is gluten-free! Score!
Just a dot
That same day I tried out my new eye primer from Mary Kay. Of course I couldn’t wait to give it a whirl and see where my eyeliner and shadow spent the rest of the day. Would they smear on my eyelid like every other day or would they actually stay in place? I was apprehensive, at best.
It turns out you only need to use the tiniest bit, per my consultant’s helpful suggestions. The little dot I squeezed out of the tube was enough for both of my eye lids. It felt like a nice moisturizer going on.
I wondered if there was a secret amount of time that I had to let it dry for it to work? To be safe I counted to 30. I then applied eyeliner, eye shadow, and mascara. I even applied a little more eye shadow just for good measure.
And then I waited for it to smear all over my eyelid.
But it didn’t.
Mary Kay Eye Primer actually works! Check out a real-life photo of the primer in action below. I snapped a pic of the eye primer working hard after 7 hours or so into the day. Keep in mind it was a chilly morning. My right eye (pictured below) watered all morning in the cold air. I thought for sure my eye makeup would be wasted due to the tearing that took place. Boy was I wrong! At that moment I knew I wanted to share my experience with all of you!
Friends, for the first time in YEARS my eye makeup is staying in place.
I have no idea what the difference is or why this eye primer works for me when none of the others did, but it does! On top of it actually working, my eyelids feel like they are nicely moisturized from the product too. I am not experiencing any of that drying out or crepey look that I got from the previous products I tried. Yay!
Mary Kay Eye Primer is the BEST eye primer…ever!
An added perk!
An added perk about Mary Kay makeup is that while I am finding awesome products that actually work, I get to support my hard-working friend at the same time! How cool is that? I bet you probably know several people who sell Mary Kay and would love your support. Please check out this link If you need help finding a Mary Kay Independent Beauty consultant near you.
Transparency is important and I want to point out that I am making absolutely NO money from this product review, nor was I given any incentive to write it. I simply wanted to share with you all what a great and reasonably priced product I found in Mary Kay’s eye primer! I hope you give it a try and find it works wonders for you and your makeup game! If you do, please drop me a line and comment below! Helping my friends makes me so happy!
