Kohl’s Cares is Awesome
Hello PTG world! Likely many of you are already familiar with the Wisconsin-based retailer, Kohl’s. If you aren’t yet a fan of their awesome sales/discounts/coupons and super amazing return policy (it is seriously the best), you will quickly become a fan of Kohl’s and their Kohl’s Cares Volunteer Program. Don’t you just love a business with an actual “Volunteer Program”?!?
How does the application process work?
Let me give you the run-down. Basically, you sign-up your non-profit from their website here, are immediately assigned a login/password, reset your password, fill out information for your organization, and request volunteer help from them. It really isn’t a complicated process at all. I’m telling you, if I can do it, you can too!
Of course their site says that not all requests are granted, but the potential benefit is pretty exciting, right? FREE volunteers from one of their local stores AND $500! I’m not kidding….
Currently there are no specified limits for requesting volunteer assistance. In other words, your PTG could potentially be approved more than once. Perhaps this could even be an annual event/partnership for your PTG & Kohl’s? It all sounds so exciting to me, are you with me?
Yes, you actually have to be an official non-profit
While the application process is easy enough- I was able to figure it out for crying out loud! I did find the initial phase of verifying the FEIN a little tricky. You see, I typed in the name we use for my PTG, but for tax purposes a different name is used. I know, it is SO confusing! What this means is that this organization is really thorough and your PTG must be a registered non-profit. If you find the FEIN verification page tricky, just type in the number to see what name is affiliated with your number. You might be just like me and be surprised at the official tax name for your PTG! Um, just make sure it actually IS your non-profit, okay? 😉
$500 donated to your organization!
Yes, you read that right. Kohl’s Cares will donate $500 to your non-profit for the opportunity to have their employees come to one of your events, volunteer at said event, and helping you! Is this for real?
They do have general guidelines that they request you follow in order to be eligible, which you can check out here on their handbook page for this volunteer program.
Keep in mind that this program also relies on availability of their employees to be able to participate at your event. In other words, it sounds like if they can’t find enough of their people to participate, it might not happen. 🙁 To me it seems like a no-brain-er and something definitely to give a try!
A little more information about Kohl’s Cares
I thought I’d include this link about some of the other impressive ways Kohl’s is involved with the community and how they give back, again and again!
I’m pretty sure I see a few more posts in the future about Kohl’s Cares and their exciting programs.
I wanted to mention that while I have gone through the registration process, my PTG has not participated with Kohl’s Cares Volunteer Program yet. We are awaiting approval, etc. Once we have success and have worked with Kohl’s Cares volunteers, I will do a follow-up to this post! In the meantime, if you have any experience with this program/similar programs, please share!
Thanks so much for taking the time to check in with me!
